This book focuses on the
life of Alexander of Macedon. It starts off with a little history of his
father, Philip. You need to know about Philip's philosophies in order to
understand Alexander. If it wasn't for Philip uniting most of Greece under
his rule, Alexander wouldnt have had the army he inherited from his father.
If you want a book with plates and pictures, this is not the book for you.
The only pictures you'll find are a few line maps. This is a pure biography.
But its a well written biography. Green's style of writing is very clear
and fresh and it will pull you right into Alexanders world. It covers many
famous battles including Isus, and youll be amazed at the ferocity of the
Indian war elephants at the battle of Hydaspes.
Very clear accounts of the behind the scenes happening in alexanders empire.
Green does his best to explain many of the inconsistancies associated with
Alexander and much of our knowledge of him comes from histories that were
actually written propaganda during the Wars of the Successors. Green does
a great job of rooting through the propaganda and filtering out the truth
and if Green isnt sure what is true or false, he'll say so. green will give
all sides and let the reader make up their own mind. This book is highly
recomended for anyone interested in ancient warfare.
