If you have read Pete Armstrong's book, Ancient and Medieval modelling, published by Osprey, then you will have seen his model of Sir Robert Clifford who was killed at Bannockburn in 1314. The mounted figure has now been released by Pete into his Border Miniatures range of 80mm figure kits (80/M8). Of course the model doesn't have to be painted as Sir Robert, the choice is always up to the modeller.

For this model Pete has reverted to an all white metal assembly for horse and rider. His previous kit of Sir Richard Neville used polyurethane resin for the horse (which had a comparison) whereas everything is in white metal in the kit, even the generously proportioned cast scenic base. Assembly is straightforward enough and everything fits together with filler required in various places to smooth over any joins. Sir Robert is bare-headed, but his helm is supplied with the kit to be slung from his horse. If you wish you could remove the head and replace it with the helm - but, for me, the bare head version is preferable - and suffciently different for a mounted knight. Get Pete's Osprey book too (ISBN 1-84176-007-2) and find out how the model was produced.
