Historicity has just released a bust of ARTHUR, COMTE et CONNÉTABLE de RICHEMONT.

Sculpted by Augie Rodrigues the bust depicts Richemont as he is likely to have appeared in the Loire valley campaign of 1429. At the time he would have been 36 / 37 years of age. The bust comes complete with a biography of the subject, together with full painting instructions.

He is depicted in a a velvet cap with a fox fur "orle", mail collar and tabard. The tabard / arms are Ermine, a label of 3 (points) Gules, each point charged with three lions passant guardant (leopards) Or. For anyone interested, the bust is shown on the MedRen Forum which also contains an in-depth and most informative step-by-step painting guide. My first impressions on opening the box were that the photos do not really do him justice.

As usual, with one of Augie's creations it is the result of painstaking research and meticulous attention to detail. This is a really superb piece that needs to be seen in the flesh. For anyone thinking of acquiring one, the bust comes in one piece and clean up on mine at least will be minimal. There are no plugs to remove and the bust is more or less ready for painting straight from the box. I must admit I find preparation of busts / figures a real chore and this should be the standard for everyone to aim for.

Detail is excellent but what really stands out for me is the way the character has been brought to life. Normally, figures / busts provoke responses in me relating to the pose, the attractiveness of a particular uniform / costume or the amount of detail and I guess it is a combination of these attributes that normally persuade me to buy the piece in question. What is different about this particular piece is the emotions it arouses about the character and in the case of Arthur comte de Richemont it is one of mistrust and dislike. (a personal opinion!) He is definitely not a character you'd want to cross or meet on a dark night (resisted the temptation to put a "k" in front of that).

Basically, it's a "warts and all" depiction. This sounds a bit strange and I hope it makes sense but basically, I love the bust but dislike the man portrayed. I believe with this one, Augie is raising the medium to a new level.

I understand the bust is limited to 50 issues so anyone interested may need to get a move on.
