The first white metal kit from
the capable hands of young spanish modeller Raul Garcia Latorre has been
released as a commercial model under his own brand of 'Latorre Models'.
The 54mm figure kit (54/01) is an officer of the 79th Regiment Cameron Highlanders,Crimea
1854.
Exceptionally well cast in white metal the kit comprises seven, superb detailed
parts. The figure has been designed as if the officer is standing in the
prevailing wind which makes everything dangling movable, right down to his
garter tabs. This musy be born in mind when assembling the model because
the sash tassels must be whipped by the wind, which the illustration here
of a model painted by raul Garcia clearly shows.
Otherwise it's faily straightforward enough to assemble and paint, however,
you will ned some very thin metal or plastic to cut the sword slings from
and these must be fed through the tiny cast rings on the scabbard. Parts
can be painted seperatly before adding to the main body casting.
Also get a sample or illustration of the Cameron of Erracht tartan sett
and work out best you'll represent it in miniature as its not an easy tartan
to paint, especially in 54mm. The instructions sheet is in Spanish with instructions
for paint colour mixes keyed to the Vallejo range of acrylics.
