The Drummer boy of the
Scots Fusilier Guards, astehy were styled during the Crimean war, was designed
by Rendall Patton, who has him sat on his drum, an unusual, but what would
be a practical pose for a any drummer boy. Its also a refreshing change
and something quite different from a standing pose- a little more human
in context perhaps? Printed painting instructions and a photograph on the
box are alll the modeller has for reference.
A drawing of the drum blazon and perhaps the fleur de lis on the
jacket would perhaps have helped beginners and especially those modellers
without much in the way of references on the british Army, bands and fifes
and drums in particular for the Crimean Period. References are quoted, but
even those with reference material on thier shelves will have to do a bit
of illustrativ research.
Other wise its a super little kit that fits together easily with a tiny
amount of filler needed around the arm joints. Its construction offers no
obvious pitfalls, though I would advise undercoating and painting it up
in sub assemblies because some parts will be difficult to reach with the
brush if evrey thing is assembled in one go.
